Agility Diary
HDCS agility dogs!

Honiton and District Canine Society have now been running agility classes for over 9 years.
We train for both fun and competition if that is what you would like to do.
We cater for complete beginners to experienced competing dogs and handlers. Click on the agility training days page to find out when the next beginners course is running, please bear in mind that all the trainers in the club give up their own time to run the classes, and we cannot run courses one after the other, and we do now have a waiting list system in operation!

AGILITY RULES

It is a Kennel Club regulation that all dogs must be vaccinated and you are asked to bring verification
(your vaccination certificate, or letter of certification from a qualified veterinary surgeon in the case of homeopathic nosodes).

For training we recommend you bring the following items:
*Flat collar (not check or half check)
*Lead (not chain lead)
*Poop bags - cos they all do it!!
*Food treats (find something your dog really likes).
*Your dog’s favourite toy, e.g., knotted rope, ball, raggie.

Items of clothing for you:
*Flat shoes or trainers (you may need to run!)
*Warm comfortable clothing.

General Rules
*All handlers must be members of H.D.C.S
*No bitches in season
*Dogs must be vaccinated (see above)
*Handlers must comply with the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991
*Cars are parked at owner’s risk
*Dogs must not be allowed to foul in training area. Any fouling in other areas must be cleared away and taken home.
(A disinfectant spray is on hand in case of accidents in training area and must be used)
*Harsh handling of dogs will not be tolerated
(if the opinion of an officer or official of the club is that a members handling of any dog is harsh,
that members conduct will be drawn to the attention of the committee, this may result in expulsion from the Society).
*Please remember not to feed your dog at least 2 hours before training and not for at least an hour afterwards to minimise the risk of a twisted stomach (bloat)

Training Rules
*Dogs must be 12 months or over (we strongly advise that big-boned dogs, e.g. GSDs, do not jump until at least 15/18 months).
*Dogs must be on a lead at all times unless instructed otherwise.
*No piece of equipment must be used unsupervised.
*The trainer’s decision as to the fitness of your dog to use any piece of equipment is final.
*No check chains or half checks to be used – leather/fabric smooth collars only.
*Dogs must be able to work off the lead to heel and recall.
* ANY dog deemed as being dangerous, to adults, children or other dogs, you will be asked to muzzle the dog whilst at the club,
a basket type muzzle is permissable to train in. If you do not comply with this rule you will not be able to bring you dog in the training area.
*Agility can be a dangerous sport. In the event of injury to your dog, a vet is on call at Honiton Small Animal Clinic Telephone 01404 42062.
